Dishwashers we fix

What we hear on dishwasher calls

When a dishwasher keeps water in the bottom, suspect the filter first, then the air gap, then a drain pump with a shard of glass in it. One that does not clean often has a weak wash pump or spray arms with plugged holes. We run a test cycle, meter the fill, the heat and the drain, and hand you the repair figure on paper.

  1. A pool in the tub after the cycle

Filter packed with food, an air gap or disposer knockout blocking the drain, or a pump that gave out.

  2. Dishes come out dirty

A weak wash pump, plugged spray arms, or water that never gets hot enough.

  3. Leaks at the door

A gasket gone hard, a spray arm knocking the door, or the wrong detergent foaming over.

  4. Will not start or stops mid-cycle

A door latch switch, a control board or a thermal fuse in the power circuit.

  5. Does not dry

A heating element out on older models, or empty rinse aid on newer condensation-dry units.

  6. Grinding or humming

A shard of glass or a fruit stone in the pump, or a motor straining against a jam.

In your home

Dishwasher Repair where the dishwasher stands

Soft water changes how dishwashers behave here. Very little scale builds up, but too much detergent leaves film and can etch glasses over time. Cutting the dose and setting the rinse aid low often clears up cloudy glasses without any part, and we tell you on the visit when that is all it takes.

Condos and older homes in the city often have the dishwasher wedged into a remodeled corner with tight plumbing behind it. A newly installed disposer with its knockout plug still in place is a classic cause of a dishwasher that will not drain. We check the whole drain path, set the unit level and secure it so the door seals the way it should.

How a visit goes

From your call to a working machine

  1. 1

    Tell us what is wrong

Ring us or fill in the booking card: which machine, what it does, your ZIP. A person calls back to agree on a time, any of the seven days, 8 AM–7 PM.

  2. 2

    A meter, not a hunch

At your door the technician confirms power first, runs a cycle, then takes readings on the parts that fit the symptom. The diagnosis comes from numbers on the meter.

  3. 3

    A cost you can hold

Before a screw is turned, the repair cost is written out for you. Say yes, and the visit charge is swallowed by that figure. Say no, and only the trip gets billed, with our notes left in your hands.

  4. 4

    Fixed, and on paper

Igniters, pumps, fuses and valves ride along in the van, which lets plenty of jobs close out in a single trip. Parts we need to order get a return date pinned down before we leave. Your invoice lists the warranty in plain terms.

FAQ

Dishwashers: questions we hear

Why are my glasses cloudy?

In Seattle's soft water it is usually too much detergent, not hard-water scale. Cut the dose in half for a few loads; film that hangs on after that points to wash heat or the rinse aid dispenser.

Can you repair a drawer dishwasher?

Yes. Double-drawer models have separate pumps and seals in each drawer, and we test them one at a time.

Should I run it again before you come?

No. If it is holding water, leave it so we can see where it stops. Put a towel under the door if it drips.

Do you install new dishwashers?

Our visits are for repair. If a dishwasher is not worth fixing, we spell that out at the first visit so you can plan the replacement.

Do you work on Bosch dishwashers?

Yes, along with Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, GE, Frigidaire and Miele. KitchenAid and Whirlpool models under warranty fall under our authorized service.

Put your machine on our schedule

Describe the trouble and we ring back to fix a time and quote the visit charge. The repair figure goes on paper, and nothing gets unscrewed until you have read it and said yes.
