Ice makers we fix

What we hear on ice maker calls

Most ice makers stop for one of three reasons: no water reaches the mold, the mold does not eject, or the freezer runs too warm to finish a batch. We check the water inlet valve and the fill tube, test the ice maker module and its thermostat, and read the freezer temperature before deciding what to replace.

  1. No ice at all

A fill tube frozen solid, a supply valve left closed, a dead water valve, or a module that quit cycling.

  2. Small or hollow cubes

Weak pressure at the valve, an overdue filter, or a saddle valve only partly open.

  3. Ice clumped in the bin

Cubes melting and refreezing because the freezer runs warm, or a dispenser flap that stays open.

  4. Dispenser jams

An auger motor that stalls, or cubes fused around the auger.

  5. Water dripping from the chute

A frozen or cracked fill tube, or a leaking inlet valve.

  6. Undercounter unit stopped

A dirty condenser, a failed water pump, or a clogged drain on clear-ice models.

In your home

Ice Maker Repair where the ice maker stands

A frozen fill tube is common after a power blip or a door left ajar, and a clogged water filter causes small, hollow cubes long before the bin goes empty. If the filter is past due, change it first; it is the easiest thing to rule out.

Seattle water is soft and clean, so mineral scale rarely clogs an ice maker here. What we see instead are supply problems: old saddle valves, long plastic lines kinked behind a fridge that was pulled out for cleaning, and filters left in place for years. We check the water side first, since it is often the whole story.

How a visit goes

From your call to a working machine

  1. 1

    Tell us what is wrong

Ring us or fill in the booking card: which machine, what it does, your ZIP. A person calls back to agree on a time, any of the seven days, 8 AM–7 PM.

  2. 2

    A meter, not a hunch

At your door the technician confirms power first, runs a cycle, then takes readings on the parts that fit the symptom. The diagnosis comes from numbers on the meter.

  3. 3

    A cost you can hold

Before a screw is turned, the repair cost is written out for you. Say yes, and the visit charge is swallowed by that figure. Say no, and only the trip gets billed, with our notes left in your hands.

  4. 4

    Fixed, and on paper

Igniters, pumps, fuses and valves ride along in the van, which lets plenty of jobs close out in a single trip. Parts we need to order get a return date pinned down before we leave. Your invoice lists the warranty in plain terms.

FAQ

Ice makers: questions we hear

Ice maker leaking: should it be off when you get there?

If it is dripping inside the freezer or on the floor, yes: flip the ice maker switch off and keep the fridge itself running.

How long before a repaired ice maker fills the bin?

The first batch usually drops within several hours, and the bin takes close to a day to fill, depending on how cold the freezer runs.

Do you fix undercounter ice machines?

Yes, home undercounter units, including clear-ice models with their own pump and drain.

Why does my ice taste stale?

Old ice soaks up freezer smells. Dump the bin, put in a fresh filter, and seal open food. If the taste stays, the filter housing or the water line may need attention.

Can you repair the ice maker on an LG fridge under warranty?

Yes. LG is one of the makes we service as an authorized company, so a covered repair is handled through us.
